Outdoor Living in Houston
Designing outdoor retreats for Houston's climate and lifestyle
At Stearns Design Build – Houston, we believe summer is meant to be enjoyed outdoors—whether grilling with friends, relaxing in the evening breeze, or watching your kids play in the backyard. That’s why we design outdoor living in Houston spaces that blend residential comfort with natural beauty, offering both functionality and style.
Outdoor living in Houston requires thoughtful design, especially considering the intense Texas heat. Whether it’s a patio, pergola, or shaded seating area, every outdoor project begins with a plan for cover and cooling. We create spaces that allow you to enjoy the outdoors with comfort and ease.
Smart Patio Expansions
We specialize in creative, space-saving solutions like stamped concrete patios that expand your living area without overpowering your yard. Designed with natural tones and textures, these spaces connect effortlessly with your home and landscape.
Functional Shade Structures
To enhance usability and comfort, we incorporate cedar pergolas—custom or kit-built—with features like outdoor fans, ambient lighting, and built-in outlets. These structures define zones for dining, lounging, and entertaining while keeping you cool throughout the year.
Why Choose Stearns Design Build?
We believe spaces should promote health, joy, and connection. Guided by our Transitions Theory of Design, we create interiors that respond to natural light, flow, and lifestyle needs—building not just homes, but well-being.

What Are The Advantages Of Design Build?
At Stearns Design-Build, the design and construction process is under one roof. By being responsible for a project from concept to completion, we are able to anticipate problems before they arise and streamline communication.
What Is The Value Of A Free Estimate?
Free estimates are ubiquitous in the remodeling industry. And they can be very misleading. We tell prospective clients upfront that we do not give free estimates, even though we always discuss the budget. An estimate given with too little knowledge about a project can be harmful. All projects require some work upfront to get to a point where an accurate investment estimate can be provided. We charge for that work and are confident that getting a reasonably precise estimate is worth the expense..
